What are the best devices to use /e/OS in North America?

We often get questions around device support in the USA and in Canada. There aren’t that many phones that are compatible with /e/OS and that are supported and whitelisted by the main carriers.

Furthermore, with carriers retiring 3G and 2G networks, you will be forced to find a model that supports 4G calls or VoLTE and that has been approved on their networks. If not, you won’t be able to register your phone line on your carrier network.

Next to the Teracube 2e, there are a few Motorola models that you can source easily, within the G7 series, like the Moto G7, G7 Play, G7 Plus, or G7 Power, but the list is quite short.

To offer more options to use /e/OS in North America, we have just added more Pixel devices to our list of supported phones. Most of the phones in the Pixel line up are meeting the different criteria for usage in North America, such as network bands support and VoLTE support. Most of the Pixel line up is whitelisted by the major carriers in the US and in Canada.

That being said, it is important to look for carrier unlocked versions, as these are the only versions that will allow you to access and unlock the bootloader, which is a crucial step required to replace the default Android and install /e/OS instead.

Within the Pixel line, we strongly recommend the following carrier unlocked models:

  • Pixel 3 (G013A)
  • Pixel 3XL (G013C, G013D)
  • Pixel 3a (G020E, G020F, G020G),
  • Pixel 3a XL (G020A, G020B, G020C)
  • Pixel 4 (G020I, G020M, G020N)
  • Pixel 4A (G025J)
  • Pixel 4XL (G020J, G020P, G020Q)
  • Pixel 4a 5G (G025E)
  • Pixel 5 (GD1YQ)
