Please welcome Murena

We’re happy to share that after a lengthy process of research and validation, we have introduced a new brand, Murena!

We needed something easy to read, easy to remember, easy to share with the largest audience possible.

Starting from today, Murena is the new name for our commercial products: smartphones with /e/OS, premium cloud plans… So now it is time to get used to Murena smartphones with /e/OS.

We’re not abandoning “/e/” totally (yet) though. We still continue to call /e/OS the operating system that we develop. On the long run, we may keep this name, or not, depending on how things go.

A new website to support the brand will be launched soon, murena.com. It will focus on the solutions that are ready to buy, like phones and online services.

As you know, we aim to update /e/OS to keep improving the user experience, add new features and include latest security updates.

In 0.19, we have made updates to the dark mode across the OS and our default apps, corrected a security issue found in our app store, and also included security patches and fixed some bugs.

0.19 is planned to get available this week.

Enjoy VoLTE on the Murena GS290

We’re happy to announce that we have found a way to support VoLTE on the Murena GS290. This update will be included in the 0.19 update for this phone, so there is no particular action on your end.

What is VoLTE you may ask?

Within a 4G or LTE plan, you have 2 dimensions to consider: voice and data.

For data, it’s pretty straight forward, all the data goes over 4G if the 4G network is available.

For voice, a real 4G call uses VoLTE or Voice Over LTE and becomes all “IP” (like a skype call from your computer if you will) with certain benefits compared to the current switching in 3G or 2G for the conversations. VoLTE brings a clear sound in HD quality and enables a multitude of services, like being able to share the voice, the video and data at once!

As a reminder, to fully benefit from VoLTE, this feature needs to be supported by your carrier, and it needs to be activated on your mobile plan. Not all carriers whitelist all phones to benefit from VoLTE.

Support the project!

User’s data privacy and finding alternatives to regain control over our data has never been a more pressing issue than it is today. The timing is great to build something new!

Your contribution is key to the success of an ambitious project like ours!
